Report on R6 Dublin V Monaghan - 31/03/2013
Monaghan remain unbeaten in the league, following their comprehensive win over Dublin on Sunday past. This win now guarantees them the top spot in the league s-finals with one game remaining at home to Tyrone this Sunday. Dublin withut a number of regulars, looked sharp in the opening minutes when Amy Mc Guinness fired over 2 points, one from a free to put the home side in the lead. Both sides found the strong wind difficult to judge the flight of the ball and this caused some problems in the initial minutes of play. Monaghan got on the scoresheet following a good run from Ciara Mc Anespie, allowing Ellen Mc Carron to fire over Monaghan’s opening score of the game, and the same player converted a free soon after to level matters, this settled Monaghan into the game. Then a great move which started deep in the Monaghan defence saw Therese Mc Nally find Ciara Mc Anespie who found the net for Monaghan’s first goal. Dublin’s Amy Mc Guinness converted another free for Dublin to reduce Monaghan’s lead and it was Amy Mc Guinness again who was on target with a free to leave just a point between the sides. Goal number two came about when the  hard working Therese Mc Nally released the ball to Caoimhe Mohan, who raised the green flag for Monaghan. This now set Monaghan on a good stead and one that would continue for the remainder of the game. Sarah Mc Caffrey pulled one back for Dublin, but that was to be their final score in the half, as  Monaghan upped the ante, with Ciara Mc Anespie hitting her second goal of the day. Laura Mc Eneaney followed up with a point before goal number 4 for Monaghan this time from Therese Mc Nally. Ellen Mc Carron finished off the scoring of the half with 2 more converted frees to leave the half time score 4-5 to 0-5.
